Don't

  1. Don't start bombing or fogging. This will only spread the problem. These insects hide in cracks and crevices. This is where the treatment must go.
  2. Don't throw out your mattress. You may have to but initially throwing it out will not get rid of the problem. It will just cost you more in the end.
  3. Don't move out to the couch- if you have them this will only spread them and couches are notoriously difficult to treat.
  4. Don't go sleep at someone else's house or apartment. They will gain the bed bugs and you will lose a friend.

DO

  1. REDUCE CLUTTER.
  2. If you are not good at detail work call a professional. Roaches, mice, rats are easy in comparison. Bed Bugs require expertise, a knowledge of bed bug behavior and the experience to know where to treat and what to use.
  3. Call soon. Time is the enemy. The longer you have Bed Bugs the more difficult they are to get rid of.
  4. If you arrange for treatment get specific instructions from the company.
  5. Put all clothing from around your bed in a plastic bag, seal it and have it washed in hot water and dried at high heat. Do not unpack until the bed bugs are gone.
  6. If the bed bugs are at a high level plan on cleaning all clothing, sheets, blankets, throws, etc. It is not uncommon to pay more in cleaning bills than for the actual treatment.
  7. Be available to give a history of the infestation.
  8. Get a price in advance. Prices vary greatly.
  9. Make sure they provide a second service in 10-14 days to eliminate any nymphs that hatch.
  10. Invest in a mattress cover. Moving companies carry them and your mattress should be placed in it after treatment. Be sure to seal the zipper end with duct tape
  11. See the PREP Sheet on "Our Method" page.
