Here are some general tips and tricks for getting prepared
and getting the most out of your service.
Pets: All pet bedding should be washed or thrown out. If throwing out destroy it
so someone will not pick it up and bring it home. Pets should be removed from
the area being treated until the treatment dries. This will avoid contact
poisoning. Cover all reptile and fish tanks. Turn off all air pumps. Remove
birds from the premises.
Prep: Either use the prep sheet on "Our Method" page or hire us to prep for you.
Do pack all clothing from the contaminated area into plastic bags and remove for
washing. Wash in hot water and dry at high heat if active insects are seen. If
no insects are seen dry at high heat for 40 minutes just in case. Leave in
plastic bags until you are sure the bed bugs are gone.
Bed: Buy a vinyl mattress cover with a zipper or invest in a high quality cover
(we carry them) I. After treatment place your mattress inside this cover and
tape the zipper end with duct tape (cheaper vinyl ones only). This will avoid
contact with pesticides and prevent bed bugs from crawling out of your mattress
and increase contact with the treatment chemical. Once your treatment is
successful throw away the box spring.
Company: Make sure the company you hire has experience treating bed bugs and are
fully licensed and insured. Make sure the Technician is State Certified and has
previous experience with bed bug treatments.
Treatment: Get a copy of the labels being used in the treatment process. Make
sure bed bugs are listed on the label. Get instructions on when you can reoccupy
the area and if there is any cleaning that must be done.
Furniture: If an upholstered item is infested find out if it can be treated or
if it needs to be thrown away. Steaming may sometimes work. If throwing out
please destroy it so someone else does not take it home and spread the problem.
Dressers, platform beds, beds, frames etc can be treated but usually require
taking them apart. Remember that bed bugs can hide in the smallest of cracks so
a thorough job is critical to success.
